Five meetings a week, and believe me, my family didn't miss one in 1975.

I was raised a JW from birth but never took to it. I had questions and issues with everything from doctrine to lifestyle stuff from a young age. Around the time that I was 16 and pressure was being brought to bear regarding baptism I did a big throw down and announced that it wasn't for me and I was not having any more of it. My parents were really upset but I think they saw it coming for a long time, and since I was actually otherwise a good kid they just said fine, as long as you abide by the rules of the house we'll go with it. Since I was never baptised I never had to deal with the shunning aspect of it. Most of my family treats me quite well, sort of the lovable rouge, and we just stay off any type of religious discussion.

What I remember from 1975
by Big Dog insince i am sort of late to the party this has probably been beaten to death and if it has just kick this thread to the curb.
i was 11 years old in 1975 and i remember being scared silly the whole year.
i mean there was so much hype about it and the tension in the air was so thick it was unreal.

I was 11 years old in 1975 and I remember being scared silly the whole year. I mean there was so much hype about it and the tension in the air was so thick it was unreal. Every night my mom and dad watched the news for signs of the big A being kicked off. They told me how bad it was likely to get and how really bad things could happen to us and that I needed to be ready for that. I remember having nightmares with images of fire and destruction dancing in my head. I remember freaking out at some thunderstorms when the sky got really dark and wondering to myself if any of my petty sins and indescretions (at 11 that was about all I was capable of) were enough to see me destroyed.
Any of you other oldersters out there remember this kind of stuff? How did you feel about it? I do sort of remember being pretty bent after it came and went for having to live through a year of terror.

Jehovah's Witnesses and the Just War Doctrine
by jschwehm inhi guys:.
one of the things that the jws claim is that there is no such thing as a just war today.
they even say that their objection to war proves that only they are true christians.. some people who are currently studying with the jws have been asking me questions on how to answer jws when they ask questions about war.. so, i put up an article on the subject at catholicxjw.com.

I followed the link and read the article, very interesting. But I have actually another question, what made you leave the JW's and how did you end up deciding on Catholocism?

You think you have it bad? Try being a Browns fan man, that's true misery. Come on over and sit in the Dawgpound for a couple of seasons then you'll have my sympath.

Guarding the platform at assemblies and conventions
by bronzefist incan anyone tell me why this practice was stopped.
i was told the reason for the guards was to prevent apostates from "attacking" anyone up there and disrupting the program.
has anyonne witnessed an "attack" of apostates gone wild?

Coult9056, oh man, I feel a hate crime coming on. Much more of that kind of info and they'll need security from yours truly. And they had assemblies at the War Memorial?????????!!!!! WTF???!!! Yeah, I definitely feel a hate crime coming on.
Those sick twisted toilet bugs, I mean is there no limit to their hyprocrisy. I remember my cousin a true blue dub who ran a little printing business being ripped on because he printed menus for a restaurant with religious affiliations.

Two great quotes!
by mkr32208 ini contend that we are both atheists, i just believe in one less god than you do.
when you understand why you dismiss all other possible gods, then you will know why i dismiss yours.

How about, My karma ran over my dogma? That could sort of be the mission statement around here.

Are there any 'true' churches ?
by Qcmbr injust a question because of course we all either believed we were in the 'truth', are still in the 'truth' have left and found the 'truth', there is no 'truth' or that the only truth is found in the trailer park with a bottle of bud and a bunch of 'pozzies:)

You know, I think that is one of the hardest things about getting out and maybe one of the greatest disservices the organization does to a person. That is instilling this idea that there is some absolute "truth" somewhere and that we have to seek it out. So many times after leaving people continue this quest thinking well, that was a pack of lies but someone must have the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. But as several of you have stated very well I don't think that any one does, at least not in the sense that we were taught that there was a truth, ie. but what was that "truth" we were taught? Really wasn't it that you must have certain beliefs and more importantly take certain actions and all this adds up to you having the truth. While there are mentions of truth in the bible, that truth doesn't seem to be of the same sort. Seems to me more of accepting the teachings of Jesus as true sort. I have always come away with the two commandment deal, love God, love your neighbor as the bottom line, everything else is window dressing. I can do that without attending a church, and I can do it just as well in a church.
